Two cases have recently been filed on behalf of transgender plaintiffs by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), one of which was in our local Middle District of Florida.
This case, EEOC v. Lakeland Eye Clinic, P.A., filed in September 2014, alleges sex discrimination in violation of Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act occurred when an employee was fired because of her gender. (The other case, also filed in September 2014 was in the Eastern District of Michigan against a funeral home.)
